6. Users shall not intentionally develop or use programs for the purpose of harassing other
users of the facility, breaking into the system, or damaging system components.
7. Computer users agree to the proprietary rights of software.
Computer software protected by copyright is not to be copied from, into, or by using
campus computing facilities, except as permitted by law or by the contract with the owner of
the copyright. In addition all Barry University computer users are required to abide by the
guidelines of the university’s Computer Software Policy.
The computer center administrative staff or supervising department chairperson will
judge an offense as either major or minor. A first minor offense will normally be dealt with by
the computer center administrative staff or supervising department chairperson after
consultation with the instructor or administrator requesting the account. Additional offenses
will be regarded as major offenses.
Violations of these policies will be dealt with in the same manner as violations of
other university policies and may result in disciplinary review. In such a review, the full range
of disciplinary sanctions is available including the loss of computer use privileges, dismissal
from the university, and legal action. Violations of some of the policies may constitute a
criminal offense.
As with all matters of law and ethics, ignorance of the rules does not excuse
violations.
POLICY ON HAZING
Hazing is defined as any act whether physical, mental, emotional or psychological,
which subjects another person, voluntarily or involuntarily, to anything that may abuse,
mistreat, degrade, humiliate, harass, or intimidate him or her, or which may in any fashion
compromise his/her inherent dignity as a person.
Hazing is inherently in conflict with the mission of Barry University and therefore
will not be tolerated. Every effort will be made to insure that students will not encounter the
humility and danger of hazing (Approved - ECA 2/96).
THOMPSON HALL LOBBY/HOUNDSTOOTH
USAGE POLICY AND GUIDELINES
The Thompson Hall Lobby and Houndstooth area is designated a meeting and
gathering space for Barry University students. The space is reserved for student oriented
functions and student organization programs on a first come, first serve basis.
1. Space may be reserved by completing a Space/Area request form available in the student
activities office. All requests must be in writing.
2. Equipment & maintenance requests must be submitted along with a completed activity
request form at least two weeks prior to the event or activity.
3. The Thompson Hall space may be reserved for a single event for a maximum of two
days.
4. Recognized student groups and student activity programs receive first priority for use of
space. Other university programs, activities and vendors will be scheduled for a
maximum of two days, on a first come, first serve basis as availability permits.
5. Setup, cleanup and program monitoring is the responsibility of the organizing group.
6. The area used is to be left in the same condition in which it was found.
7. The following activities must be approved by the director of student activities prior to the
event:
- movement of furniture
- posting of materials, banners, fliers, etc.
