The charge for cleaning and trash left in the room will be jointly decided upon by the<br />

housekeeping and residential life staff. Any common area damage or excessive cleaning<br />

charges will be shared be the residential area.<br />

STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES<br />

Accessibility accommodations are provided for students with disabilities. Students are<br />

responsible for submitting their Residence applications to the Office of Residential Life AND<br />

contacting the Office of Disability Services before May 1. Rooms are assigned on a firstcome,<br />

first-served basis therefore requests must be made well in advance.<br />

YOUR ROOM<br />

All resident rooms are equipped with the appropriate numbers of beds, mattresses, desks,<br />

chairs, blinds, dressers. Residents must bring their own linens, pillows, towels, bedspreads,<br />

lamps and wastebaskets.<br />

Free standing or movable furniture may be arranged within your room. Residents may<br />

not substitute, disassemble or remove provided furnishings from rooms. Waterbeds and lofts<br />

are prohibited. Beds may not be elevated from the floor by any means other than bunk bed<br />

units provided by Residential Life. Students may be fined for leaving furniture in hallways.<br />

Lounge furniture may not be moved.<br />

The occupants of each room assume responsibility for the care of the room and its<br />

furnishings, for removing trash to specific disposal areas, and for maintaining sanitary and<br />

safety conditions acceptable to the Office of Residential Life. The Office of Residential Life<br />

will maintain an accurate record of the condition of each room and its furnishings. Each<br />

resident will sign a room condition report for the room and furnishings upon check-in and upon<br />

subsequent changes to new rooms. When a resident moves from a room, damages will be<br />

assessed by the Office of Residential Life so as to assess the person(s) responsible, or the<br />

remaining person(s) will assume the responsibility. Damages may also be assessed throughout<br />

the year when necessary.<br />

Decorations should be mounted with magic mount to avoid marring painted surfaces<br />

when tape is removed. Tape, nails, tacks and screws are prohibited as they damage the wall<br />

surfaces. The damaging of a surface will result in a damage charge. Residents may not drill<br />

holes or permanently attach any objects to walls, floors, ceilings or doors. Residents may<br />

enhance their rooms, but must return them to their original condition upon departure.<br />

Residents may not attach stickers to doors, walls and/or windows, and may not wallpaper<br />

or paint any area of the residence halls. Air conditioning vents may not be blocked.<br />

Damages and Costs<br />

Residents agree to pay for damages, lost university property or unnecessary service costs<br />

caused to residence halls because of their actions. Residents assume a collective responsibility<br />

for damages caused to common areas of their apartment/hall unless individual responsibility is<br />

claimed or assigned for such damages. Residents are encouraged to provide any knowledge<br />

they have regarding damage to avoid collective charges.<br />
