SERVICES
BANKING
A BankAmerica automatic teller machine (ATM) is located in Thompson Hall outside of
the post office. The ATM accepts VISA/MasterCard, Cirrus, Relay, Honor, Plus, Presto and
other banking cards. There are several banks located within the Miami Shores area. To open a
new checking or savings account, most banks will require a driver's license, passport or
resident card, and a voter's registration or credit card.
LAUNDRY
Laundry facilities are available within each residence hall except Browne and Sage.
Browne and Sage residents use the laundry facilities located in the Triangle Building, which is
adjacent to the two buildings. Students are asked to use the machines located in their own hall
as this will allay crowded laundry facilities for all residents. Both washers and dryers cost
$1.00 per load and take quarters only. Malfunctioning machines and lost money should be
reported to the Office of Residential Life.
Tampering with the laundry equipment is strictly prohibited. Students found tampering
with the laundry equipment will be fined $50 and may be subject to further disciplinary action.
PENAFORT POOL
The Penafort Pool is located in the residence hall quadrangle in front of Weber Hall and
is open every day from sunrise until 11:00 pm Current students and alumni with valid
university I.D. and their guests are permitted to use the pool. Guests must be accompanied at
all times by their host. Pool rules are posted near the pool and must be followed.
POST OFFICE
All resident students are assigned a student mailbox located in Thompson Lobby.
Resident students are required to check their mailboxes daily.
STORAGE
The university does not provide storage at any time. Student must take possessions home
or make other arrangements. There are several moving companies in Miami that will provide
summer storage and several locations where storage facilities may be rented. Moving
companies generally charge a fixed amount per month for each 100 cubic feet of storage and
have provisions for purchasing insurance. Sometimes it is useful for several students to rent
storage space jointly. Students who want to inquire further about storage should check the
"yellow pages" and call several moving and storage companies to compare prices and
procedures.
