Library Hours: Hours for the library are posted in the foyer of the library and are available by telephone 305-899-3776. The Monsignor William Barry Memorial Library provides materials and services in support of the educational and cultural objectives of the university. Students have access, in open stacks, to a collection of more than 713,000 items and 2,767 periodical titles. Library books are loaned for three weeks to students presenting a valid university ID card. Overdue fines and lost book charges are the responsibility of the student. Currently enrolled students have access to research assistance with professional librarians, individual or group library instruction, and electronic database searching through the Reference Department (telephone 899-3772). The library belongs to three networks: Southeast Florida Library Information Network (SEFLIN), Florida Library Information Network (FLIN), and Southeastern Library Network (SOLINET), which allow the student even greater access to book or periodical articles. Materials obtained through SEFLIN and FLIN are free; other requests may incur a charge. The Interlibrary Loan Office can be reached at 899-3943. The Audiovisual Department (Fourth Floor, telephone 899-3765) provides media and equipment for instructional use. The Monsignor William Barry Memorial Library adheres to the Barry University copyright policy. INSTRUCTIONAL COMPUTING SERVICES The Instructional Computing Services (ICS) area has as its mission that of keeping academic users current in information and academic technology tools by providing the highest level of training, service, and support. This area is also in charge of providing the necessary resources to support current academic computing needs; and to provide the entire Barry community with effective and timely desktop applications training. MAIN COMPUTER LAB (OPEN LAB - GARNER ROOM 247) The university main computer lab is available to all students and faculty and provides access to various application packages, various operating systems, electronic mail, and the Internet. The lab is equipped with more than 78 PCs, 4 Macintosh, 2 scanners, 5 laser printers and 1 color laser printer. PRINTING SERVICES The laser-printing price is $0.05 per page when using the printing card and $0.10 per page when paying in cash. Color laser printing as well as overhead transparencies are also available. Please check with the lab assistant on duty for more information. STUDENT ACCOUNTS All registered students are eligible to apply for a free user account on the student server DOMINIC. This account provides access to electronic mail, and text-based Internet tools. Student’s e-mail addresses are userid@dominic.barry.edu. Existing student accounts expire two weeks after the start of each fall and spring semester and must be renewed to maintain uninterrupted service. Students can renew their accounts by completing an online form available on the Barry “Student Web” (http://student.barry.edu.) These accounts are accessible through modem dial-up access at (305) 899-3636. Modem settings are: 8 bits, 1 stop bit, and no parity (8-1-N). REMOTE (PPP) GRAPHICAL ACCESS To gain access to Windows-based World Wide Web and electronic mail services users must have an account with an Internet Service Provider (ISP). Students and faculty can receive discounts rates through the IBM Global Network provider. For more information please, contact the IT Support Desk.
