reader.bind
While this command is still functional for backward compatibility reasons, it
has been superceded by reader.events.bind(). Please use
reader.events.bind() in any future applications.

reader.check_service
This function checks the status of a system service. The information
returned could be one of the following:
is alive, pid=
is not running
is dead, last know pid=
The following example gets the status of the discovery service:
>>> reader.check_service(discovery)
ok
discovery is alive, pid=14573
