Mission <strong>of</strong> the Group<br />

To act as a co-ordinating body within the Faculty <strong>of</strong> <strong>Medicine</strong> <strong>and</strong><br />

<strong>Health</strong> <strong>Science</strong>s (UAEU) for individuals or groups interested in<br />

medical education in order to promote scholarly activities in<br />

teaching <strong>and</strong> learning locally, regionally <strong>and</strong> internationally.<br />

PRIMARY AIMS include<br />

• Developing an ethos <strong>of</strong> medical education research within<br />

the FMHS<br />

• Providing staff development to promote medical education<br />

research through workshops, journal clubs, etc.<br />

• Providing guidance <strong>and</strong> resources for those interested in<br />

medical education research<br />

• Promoting <strong>and</strong> facilitating teaching <strong>and</strong> learning scholarship<br />

by publishing research in peer-reviewed journals, conference<br />

attendance, etc.<br />

• Co-ordinating medical education research activities within<br />

the FMHS<br />

• Promoting medical education research with the Gulf region <strong>and</strong><br />

internationally by establishing networks <strong>of</strong> collaborators<br />

• Securing funding for medical research activities<br />

• Establishing focus areas in research in terms <strong>of</strong> the current <strong>and</strong><br />

future trends in medical education<br />

• Communicating results <strong>of</strong> research activities to decision- <strong>and</strong><br />

policy-makers<br />

• Involving students in the activities <strong>of</strong> MERGE, wherever<br />

appropriate<br />
