The National Medical Library (NML) together with
the Faculty of Medicine and Health Science
continued to provide wide and efficient access to
information to all Health Science Professionals in
the country.
The NML houses a print collection of medical books and journals
along with a growing collection of e-resources and medical
databases accessible via NML website. In addition, the NML
hosts a growing number of learning resources for the educational
needs of the faculty such as DVD’s, models and charts. Library
services may be obtained through physically visiting the library
or by requesting them online. A staff of professional and paraprofessionals
are available to assist all library users.
In recent years, the NML has also housed the simulcast digital
classrooms and the student computer laboratories, both
developments that have ensured a much more prominent and
lively attendance of students than is usual in a traditional library.
In fact, as with other libraries in the world, the NML is witnessing
a rapid change towards multi media contents than ever before,
providing information services at a distance, typically at the
desktop of individual faculty or closer by as with the growing
collections of learning materials such as CD’s, DVD’s, anatomical
and pathophysiological models.
Finally it is hoped that with the arrival of the new librarian, this
development may continue thereby ensuring that the NML will
enter the digital age as befits the largest medical repository of
the nation.
