forum for the exchange of ideas and knowledge
concerning trauma management. The meeting
will focus on recent advances and controversies
through interaction with renowned
international speakers. The conference will be
of a multidisciplinary nature as Surgeons,
Emergency Physicians, Critical Care Physicians,
Radiologists, Epidemiologists, prehospital staff
as well as hospital based medical and nursing
staff in the United Arab Emirates and those from
other GCC are expected to participate. The
program has been structured in the form of
plenary and parallel lectures and symposia, as
well as oral and poster presentations. Issues
addressed will include evidence based diagnosis
and management of trauma patients, damage
control surgery and angioembolization,
abdominal compartment syndrome, and new
trends in trauma research including
management of coagulopathy and sepsis.
Specific important topic sessions such as
prehospital care, trauma education and training,
trauma registries and systems, disaster
management, injury prevention, biomechanics
and road safety will also featured as well as
dealing with trauma management of specific
organs. A website of the conference has been

injuries in UAE. Funded by Johnson & Johnson
Middle East and Safe Kids Worldwide
• Educational Grant to support Point of Care
Ultrasound courses, Sonosite, Middle East.

E) Publications and Abstracts
In 2008, the group has published 14 papers
related to trauma in international referred
journals and one research monograph. Both
quality and quantity of research has improved.
These papers stemmed from collaborative work
with Tawam and Al-Ain Hospitals networking
between the University and these two
