2008 has been a very busy year for student
research. A major activity has been the
preparations leading up to“The 6th International
Scientific Conference for Medical Students in the
GCC Countries”. The summer was also a busy time
for research.
“The 6th International Scientific Conference for
Medical Students in the GCC Countries”
Nearly 200 students have been involved in the organisation of
the conference which was held in the Faculty of Medicine &
Health Sciences (FMHS), United Arab Emirates University (UAEU),
January 18-21st, 2009. More than 1600 delegates from more
than 35 countries were registered to attend the event which
included 6 international keynote speakers, 74 oral and 198
posters, 17 workshops, 2 plenary sessions, a Medical Exhibition
and a variety of social events.
The keynote speakers included: Professor Sir Bruce Ponder,
Director of Cancer Research UK Cambridge Research Institute,
UK; Professor David C. Dale, Professor of Medicine, University of
Washington, USA; Doctor Joyce Pickering, Associate Dean,
Medical Education & Student Affairs, Faculty of Medicine, McGill
University, Canada; Professor Adekunle Dawodu, Professor of
Paediatrics, Director of International Patient Care and Education,
Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Centre, USA; Professor
Ronald Harden, Director, Centre for Medical Education, University
of Dundee, Scotland; Professor Ronald Berk, Professor of
Biostatistics & Measurement, Former Assistant Dean for Teaching,
The Johns Hopkins University, USA.
