The MRCP(UK) PACES Centre at Al Ain Hospital
is firmly established and is providing 2 diets
per year. Four examiners have been approved
from the Department: Professor M Ellis,
Professor S Gariballa, Professor E N Obineche and
Dr A Shehab. Professor E N Obineche also
examines in the Arab Boards Internal Medicine.
Dr S Benedict (Medical Research Specialist I),
Dr A M Abdulle (Medical Research Specialist II)
and Mr J Yasin (Medical Research Specialist II)
have been enmeshed in the research activities
of various faculty within and outside the
Department. Their workload increases steadily
with time. Mr Awad Al-Essa (Research Nurse), is
busily occupied with several research projects.
Ms Mary Kutty (Research Assistant) has been
funded by an external grant.
Ms Shaikha Al-Marar (Research Assistant) is
actively involved with faculty research projects.
Ms Sheena Ogilvie and Ms Reena John continue
to provide secretarial services and Mr Hisham
Hassan vital administrative services for the
Department.
The Departmental laboratory is located on
the 3rd floor and research interests and
publications covered in 2008 were:
A Professorial Medical Unit (PMU) has been
established at Al Ain Hospital under the Clinical
Directorship of Professor S Gariballa. This clinical
unit will provide resources for clinical care,
postgraduate residency teaching and clinical
research.
In relation to Teaching Assistants, we have
five who are studying abroad. They are as

The Department members published 24 papers
in peer-reviewed journals, 3 book chapters,
reviews or editorials, 9 abstracts and 46
conference presentations and 7 clinical grants
are held.
