CMDS 340 Aural Rehabilitation:<br />
A study of the effects of hearing loss on the speech, language, academic, and communication<br />
abilities of children and adults; principles and techniques of rehabilitation, including the use of<br />
counseling, hearing aids, cochlear implants, lip-reading, and auditory training; and implications<br />
for educational and vocational development. Prerequisite: CMDS 257. 3 sem. hrs. 3 crs.<br />
CMDS 355 Language Science:<br />
This course will familiar students with the way in which linguistics relates to speech-language<br />
pathology. Course content is designed to introduce students to the five levels of natural<br />
languages: phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics. Additional topics<br />
(second language acquisition, bilingualism, sociolinguistics, bidialectalism, American Sign<br />
Language linguistics, neurolinguistics and psycholinguistics) will be incorporated into the<br />
course. 3 sem. hrs. 3 crs.<br />
CMDS 498 Clinical Process III:<br />
A preliminary clinical experience in the <strong>Mercy</strong> Speech and Hearing Center. Students will<br />
participate in the development and implementation of the treatment plan for communication<br />
disordered clients. Course topics will include a review of communication disorders,<br />
professional report writing, session planning, standardized test review, and sharing a<br />
client with a graduate student clinician. (Previously titled CMDS 498 Clinical Practicum).<br />
Prerequisites: CMDS 210 and CMDS 215. $75 lab fee. 2 sem. hrs. 2 crs. (Enrollment in this<br />
course requires proof of immunization).<br />
Computer Arts + Design<br />
CART 110 Foundation: Drawing + Design<br />
An introduction to the basic principles and processes of drawing and two-dimensional visual<br />
composition. Majors must pass with a minimum grade of C+ in order to continue in the major.<br />
Prerequisite: Portfolio review admission into major or permission of the Chair. 3 sem. hrs. 1.5<br />
hrs. studio/lab per week. 3 crs.<br />

CART 120 Foundation: Digital Theory + Skills<br />
An introduction to the basic vocabulary and principles of communication and media theory,<br />
including the various roles and digital tools, skills and techniques of the computer arts and<br />
design industry. Majors must pass with a minimum grade of C+ in order to continue in the<br />
major. Prerequisite: Portfolio review admission into major or permission of the Chair. 3 sem.<br />
hrs. 1.5 hrs. studio/lab per week. 3 crs.<br />
CART 200 Drawing I:<br />
An introduction to basic principles and processes of drawing, with an emphasis on direct<br />
observation. Students work from still life, nature, and the imagination towards an understanding<br />
of the perceptual aspects of visual forms. Prerequisite: Minimum grade of C+ in CART 110 and<br />
120. 3 sem. hrs. 1.5 hrs studio/lab per week. 3 crs.<br />
CART 214 Drawing II:<br />
Further exploration and understanding of drawing elements with an emphasis on drawing process,<br />
pictorial structure, and personal expression. The course includes an introduction to drawing the<br />
human form. Prerequisites: CART 200. 3 sem. hrs. 1.5 hrs. studio/lab per week. 3 crs.<br />
CART 215 (ARTT 215) History of Art I:<br />
This course is the first half of a yearlong survey of the history of art, with specific emphasis<br />
on the examination of the representation of ideas in terms of the science of interpretation<br />
(hermeneutics) and the language of signs (semiotics). This examination is specifically geared<br />
to those for whom the study of the history of art is a prelude to a life of design. The course
