Minor Concentrations<br />

Students may group a set of elective courses as a minor concentration. Minor<br />

concentrations are noted on a student’s transcript as a way of recognizing that he/she<br />

has, over and above the required major program, also concentrated to a lesser degree<br />

in one or more other areas. The rules governing a minor concentration are the same for<br />

all areas except Social Work and are as follows:<br />

A minor concentration is constituted by a group of courses (numbered 120 or above)<br />

amounting to at least 15 credits in one of the following areas:<br />

Accounting<br />

Biology<br />

Business Administration<br />

Chemistry<br />

Communications Disorders<br />

Computer Information Science<br />

Computer Science<br />

Criminal Justice<br />

Economics<br />

English<br />

Finance<br />

History<br />

Humanities<br />

Legal Studies<br />

Management<br />

Marketing<br />

Mathematics<br />

Media Studies<br />

Music Industry + Technology<br />

Psychology<br />

Social Work**<br />

Sociology<br />

Spanish<br />

Speech<br />

* Requires 18 credits<br />

** Requires 15 credits of social work theory with no more than 3 credits in social work practice.<br />

The following conditions should be noted:<br />

(1) At least nine credits to be used toward a minor concentration must have been<br />

taken at <strong>Mercy</strong> <strong>College</strong>.<br />

(2) A student must have a 2.0 cumulative scholastic index in an area for it to be<br />

recorded as a minor concentration.<br />

(3) Courses already counted toward a major or the general requirement cannot also<br />

constitute part of the minor concentration.
