PHED 104 Recreational Activities:<br />

The study of the history, principles, rules and practical application in various recreational<br />

activities. Included are: badminton, tennis, volleyball, platform tennis, bowling, and golf.<br />

This course is designed to provide the student with a lifelong recreational activity after the<br />

college years are completed. 3 crs.<br />

PHED 109 Self-Defense I:<br />

This course is designed to aid the student in attaining a level of physical fitness while also<br />

gaining fundamental knowledge of the principles and tactics of self-defense, in both theory<br />

and practice. 3 crs.<br />

PHED 110 Body Conditioning:<br />

The purpose of this course is to develop a well-rounded conditioning program covering all<br />

phases of motor performance. The course will be used as a guide for a lifetime fitness program<br />

designed for each student. While the student uses the course as a starting point, the ultimate<br />

goal will be to recognize the hazards of unfitness, obesity, and inactivity after college. 3 crs.<br />

the study of the fundamental concepts in astronomy; the universe; modern theories of stellar<br />

evolution; techniques of astronomical observation; physical characteristics of planets, satellites,<br />

and comets. 3 sem. hrs. 3 crs.<br />

PHYS 110 Introduction to Physics:<br />

A study of the basic physical concepts and scientific methodology as exemplified in the study<br />

of those principles that are applicable in everyday situations: motion, force, energy, waves,<br />

electricity, magnetism, atomic and nuclear physics. 3 sem. hrs. 3 crs.<br />

PHYS 160-161 General Physics I, II:<br />

Introduction to the general physical principles in the fields of mechanics, heat, sound, light,<br />

magnetism, electricity, atomic and nuclear physics, and problem-solving techniques. Prerequisite:<br />

MATH 201 or the equivalent; PHYS 160 is a prerequisite for PHYS 161. 3 hrs. lect. 3 hrs. lab<br />
