RETROLED technology
RETROLED Technology
Following the successful introduction of a new designed LED range
REVOLED luminaires, Indal introduces an LED alternative for the existing
range of successful Indal luminaires. Due to careful backwards engineering,
using all the experience build from the REVOLED technology, Indal
RETROLED technology has now become economically employable.
RETROLED is feasible to utilise LED successfully in existing luminaire
shapes, contributing to a further reduction of energy consumption,
carbon footprint and maintenance resulting in a lower Total Cost of
Ownership. Savings can easily run up to 50%, depending on the replaced
conventional light source, application and road geometry. Installing
RETROLED luminaires can also help to introduce comfortable and
effective white light into the streets, enhancing safety and general well
being. Next to RETROLED engine luminaires, Indal also offers a
RETROLED kit, offering the possibility to upgrade already installed
luminaires to this new technological standard.
Neutral White LEDs are used as a standard (Warm White and Cool White on
request), because of the best lighting comfort in combination with the
best lighting performance.
Thermal management approach
The lighting performance and life time of a luminaire are closely related
to the operating temperature of the LEDs. That is why the LEDs must be
kept as cool as possible. Through a careful program of backward
engineering, Indal achieves respectable results, both in lumen package
and expected life time for luminaires, not originally designed or optimised
for an LED light source. The LEDs are standard operated at low current
(350mA), to achieve the maximum efficiency (lumen/watt ratio), resulting
in an expected life time up to 20 years. Versions using higher currents
(500 or 700mA) provide a higher light output (higher number of lumen
per LED). However their energy consumption is higher and their life time
is shorter. On the basis of the Indal TRIPLE-C philosophy, the customer
can select the right balance between energy consumption, life time,
efficiency and costs.
Optical approach
DIRECTA is designed to distribute light efficiently by accurately
targeting the surface to be lit. It distributes light in a rectangle pattern to
minimise waste of light as much as possible. In order to meet different
specifications of lighting applications, several lens optics are possible.
Through the positioning (factory configured) of the lenses either a road
or an area light distribution can be provided.
RETROLED is build by four main elements:
Design
Retro-fit for installed based luminaires, as an energy saving LED solution
in existing luminaires. Retro-look through the continuation of wellappreciated
and proven shapes, thus retaining the street landscape and
style of the environment.
RETROLED can be used in two different ways:
• For installed based luminaire, the RETROLED kit solution can replace
the existing light source.
• For new lighting installation, the RETROLED engine is delivered
already integrated in the luminaire.
In some luminaires the original bowl is kept, to retain the style and shape
of the luminaire.
