The luminaire
that symbolises a main road into the centre of Paris
Created in 1905, the Bir-Hakeim bridge is today one of the most important bridges in Paris. Made entirely
from metal, the construction rests on Île aux Cygnes and stands out owing to its decidedly modern
architecture. This project, ambitious for the period, was made up of two roads and a viaduct reserved for the
metro. Construction of the structure was supervised by the engineer Louis Biette. It brings together the rail,
road and footpaths. It is decorated with allegorical statues by Camille Jean Formigé and offers a superb view
of the Eiffel Tower.
