Sanitation and Treatment<br />

Sanitation<br />

Various sanitation procedures must be followed from the time a field<br />

is identified as infested with golden nematode until the field is officially<br />

surveyed and confirmed negative for golden nematode to prevent the<br />

spread of the pest.<br />

Procedures deemed appropriate by the officer will be implemented<br />

following each authorized activity on an infested field.<br />

Authorized Pesticides<br />

Steam heat treatment is the established method of fumigating<br />

regulated articles. See T.406C & T.406D in the PPQ Treatment <strong>Manual</strong>.<br />

Methyl bromide is authorized for treatment of regulated articles for<br />

golden nematode. See Figure 3-1-1.<br />

Certification Period<br />

Once the infested field is treated, the certification period lasts as long<br />

the treated area is protected from recontamination.<br />
