in theory and application and many new research themes have recently appeared and are
pushing forward rapidly at both the national and international research levels. Ultimately,
while we do not claim to cater to all needs and interests, we feel that there are some
important issues raised in the book that apply to the integration of remote sensing data
with spatial models and trust that there are some ‘nuggets’ for interested academicians and
practitioners in this dynamic field.
A book such as this cannot come into existence without the assistance of many people
involved both with the organization of the symposium and the production of the book. For
sponsoring the original meeting we are very grateful to the Photogrammetry and Remote
