3.15.2 Specific Eddy Current Applications Numerous NDT papers and articles have been written on specific eddy current applications. Many of these articles involve the detection and measurement of flaws in steering mechanisms, airplane landing gears, engine parts, reactor and steam generator tubes, aircraft wheels, aircraft wing structures, condenser pipes, and turbine blades. Other specific applications are listed below: 1. Determine the installed position of piston rings in motors using the differential probe technique. 2. Determine the extent of defects on the face of tungsten contact rivets using a hand-held, rotating probe instrument. 3. Detect missing needle bearing using a hand-held, rotating probe instrument.
