In aerospace,ACFM applications include inspections of:
• Undercarriage components for civil and military aircraft
• Engine components such as crankshafts, cylinder heads, turbine discs,
and blade roots
• Gearbox components and gear teeth
• Structural members, engine mounts, and metal skins
• Bolts, studs, and threaded bolt holes—wheels and hubs
• Gas, pneumatic, and hydraulic lines
Materials typically examined during these inspections include steel and
stainless steels, duplex and super duplex steels, aluminum, and titanium.
Again because of temperature and stress, weld areas are areas of prime
concern.
