Materials with high permeability or conductivity have relatively shallow skin<br />

depths. At 5kHz, the following materials exhibit the approximate skin depths<br />

shown.<br />

• Mild steel ~0.1mm<br />

• Aluminum, tungsten, zinc ~1 to 2mm<br />

• Titanium, stainless steel, and Inconel ~5 to 8mm<br />

When there are no defects, uniform current flows in the Y-direction and the<br />

magnetic field is uniform in the X- irection perpendicular to current flow and<br />

other magnetic components are zero.<br />
