Simulation Value Determines the value which should be shown in the input field during the editor's Simulation mode. Simulation mode can be used to create visualization pictures for product documentation. Visual Components does not use these settings in any other place. Simulation Value CharBox Desired display of the input field as a character string in Simulation mode. Possible Settings Any character string which can be displayed in the input field as a result of its set length. Visual Components does not check the format or the value of the input. The entire character set of the selected font can be displayed using this button. Characters can therefore be input that are not available with the current keyboard settings. A character can be inserted into the Simulation Value field by double clicking on it in the CharBox. It is displayed using the input field's set font. Possible Settings Settings For the general operation of dialog boxes. OK Cancel Buttons Applies settings and closes the dialog box. If settings cannot be applied because of an error, it is indicated and the dialog box is not closed. Note: All changes are applied, including those made under different (hidden) tabs. When the input field is inactive, the current state of the connected variable is displayed. Introduction to Visual Components 2.3 General Summary of the basic properties of these types of input fields. Function Displays and inputs text from and in process variables of type STRING[] Data Types Availability Special Features Appearance Individual Colors Input The following data types can be used for this field: STRING[] This field can be used by all systems supported by Visual Components. Depending on the number of panel keys, it may not be possible to input all characters via the panel itself. However, this does not diminish the basic function of the input field. Special Functions: • Support of additional keys for cursor navigation and tabulator control for convenient input. • Editing of text longer than the field allows by scrolling field content. • Input locking using numeric password levels (configurable) or the connected Status process variable for simple user management. • Notification during or after entry takes place using the Status and Completion Data Point process variables. This allows reactions to the input and synchronized data acquisition from external stations. The value is output as a series of characters on the display and is controlled via operator panel keys or the virtual keypad on touch screens. Special Functions: • Visible/Invisible switching using the Status process variable • Selectable foreground and background colors • Display of incorrect/missing variables (field filled in with hyphens '−') • Fully selectable fonts The following can be individually set for each input field of this type: • Foreground color (text color) • Background color All colors can either be set in the editor or during runtime using a process variable. Optional, using one or more of the following methods: • Character input using panel keys • Using the automatically displayed virtual keypad on panels with touch screens When panel keys are used to input, additional keys can be configured for convenient cursor navigation. The virtual keypad automatically displayed on touch screens provides these possibilities automatically (1/4 VGA system touch screens are limited by space and only provide a portion of the possible keys). Properties Input field properties are set under the various tabs of the Properties dialog box. Field properties can be displayed by double−clicking on the input field in the editor and are automatically shown after a new field is inserted. Available settings are described respectively on their own pages. The following list provides an outline of the possible settings (tabs), as well as references to detailed information. Parameter Colors Basic parameters of input fields such as position, size, connected variable, and status are defined under this tab. Settings under this tab have to be adjusted for all input fields created. Settings under this tab can be used to specify user−defined color settings and to connect process variables for controlling colors. This is very useful for color displays, but can also be used for black/white displays. Keys Allows additional keys to be configured for cursor navigation and tabulator control (TAB) for systems with operator panel keys.
