Carriageways Life Cycle <strong>Plan</strong>14.6 Option Appraisal14.6.1 Routine MaintenanceRoutine Maintenance is the regular ongoing day-to-day work that comprisesservicing rather than repair and is necessary to keep assets operating, this alsocovers the reactive or adhoc repair or renewal of small elements or componentswhich have become unserviceable due to general wear and tear or havedeteriorated for other reasons. A new specification for gullymaintenance is currently being prepared and will be available early 2007.14.6.2 Renewal/ReplacementRenewal/replacement work is majorplanned (programmed) work that doesnot increase the asset’s designedcapacity, but restores, rehabilitates,replaces or renews an existing assetto its original capacity. (Maintaining a‘Steady State’) Table 14.6.2 details anumber of ‘Steady State’ activitiestheir relative merits and their expectedprogramme intervals.104
