The fisheries sector has emerged as animportant source <strong>of</strong> foreign exchangethrough the export <strong>of</strong> several items <strong>of</strong> highvalue fish <strong>and</strong> fishery products such aschilled <strong>and</strong> frozen tuna, <strong>and</strong> products suchas shrimp, lobsters, shark fins <strong>and</strong> seacucumber. It will develop practicalguidelines <strong>and</strong> mechanism to establish a chain <strong>of</strong>custody <strong>of</strong> tuna l<strong>and</strong>ed <strong>and</strong> provide training forfishers <strong>and</strong> related <strong>of</strong>ficers in the line <strong>Ministry</strong>.The project is to introduce set net fishingtechnique in the coastal area at Ambalangoda on apilot basis for raising fishermen’s income.The project is to establish a comprehensivecommunications system <strong>and</strong> installation <strong>of</strong> vesseltracking system in multi-day fishing boats forsustainable fisheries management <strong>and</strong> complywith <strong>and</strong> implement IUU fishing regulations. Theproject implementation will be done by bothCeylon Fishery Harbours Corporation (CFHC)<strong>and</strong> the Department <strong>of</strong> Fisheries & AquaticResources.The project is to provide training <strong>and</strong> fishprocessing facilities for women in the fishingcommunity in the coastal area <strong>of</strong> the JaffnaDistrict. The project will be implemented by theInter–people corporation, a Japanese NonGovernmental Organization.The project is to generate <strong>and</strong> upgrade accuratedata base on the sea bed for coastal <strong>and</strong> <strong>of</strong>fshoredevelopment planning in the Eastern <strong>and</strong> Northernareas.
