The fisheries sector has emerged as animportant source of foreign exchangethrough the export of several items of highvalue fish and fishery products such aschilled and frozen tuna, and products suchas shrimp, lobsters, shark fins and seacucumber. It will develop practicalguidelines and mechanism to establish a chain ofcustody of tuna landed and provide training forfishers and related officers in the line Ministry.The project is to introduce set net fishingtechnique in the coastal area at Ambalangoda on apilot basis for raising fishermen’s income.The project is to establish a comprehensivecommunications system and installation of vesseltracking system in multi-day fishing boats forsustainable fisheries management and complywith and implement IUU fishing regulations. Theproject implementation will be done by bothCeylon Fishery Harbours Corporation (CFHC)and the Department of Fisheries & AquaticResources.The project is to provide training and fishprocessing facilities for women in the fishingcommunity in the coastal area of the JaffnaDistrict. The project will be implemented by theInter–people corporation, a Japanese NonGovernmental Organization.The project is to generate and upgrade accuratedata base on the sea bed for coastal and offshoredevelopment planning in the Eastern and Northernareas. The physical and human resources ofNARA will be developed for collection,processing and publication of seabed informationin the project area.This project proposes to reconstruct andrehabilitate the Mannar and Miladdy fisheryharbors in Northern Province with the assistanceof the government of Korea.It is proposed to undertake research anddevelopment activities regarding fisheries andaquatic resources, inland fisheries andaquaculture, to corporate with NAQDA, NARAand the national universities in coordination withthe Sri Lanka Council for Agriculture ResearchPolicy 14845.012.185,53326.4211.01090.0277.6
