(Mahinda Chintana <strong>2010</strong> )Government sports policy has recognizedthe necessity <strong>of</strong> creating opportunities tooptimize the economic benefits emanatingfrom sports.Towards making "Mahinda ChintanaIdiridekma" a reality, medical facilitieswere extended by creating medical units inBase Hospitals where medical facilities,advice on nutrition, preventiveinvestigations, physiotherapy, treatment<strong>and</strong> immunization facilities were provided.The future plans are- Improve rural sport facilities withhigh st<strong>and</strong>ard Improve facilities for adventuresports <strong>and</strong> water sports Design indoor stadium for wintergames Provide new sports opportunity fortheir busy life styles <strong>and</strong> refreshtheir life creating a stress- free <strong>and</strong>enthusiastic work force. Improve sports facilities fordisadvantaged people Establish community fitnesscentres provide support for hostinginternational sports events185Development <strong>of</strong> sports activities inschools; it is expected that one school ineach district should have a fully fledgedsports complex with st<strong>and</strong>ard facilities.Playground at Piliy<strong>and</strong>ala Central collegein Colombo. Dickwella Vijitha CentralCollege in Matara district <strong>and</strong> ChillawMadampe Senanayake Central College inPuttalam district have been completed in<strong>2010</strong>.A new 400 meter track <strong>and</strong> a swimmingpool are being constructed in Dickwella tocater to rural youth <strong>and</strong> 10 publicplayground are being built in several areas,including a complete stadium inPiliy<strong>and</strong>ala.
