The Bank’s expatriationguide was also updated.<strong>BNP</strong> <strong>Paribas</strong> awardedthe <strong>2004</strong> Expatriation TrophyAt the 16th Avenir Export – Avenir Expatinternational trade and mobilityfair held in Paris in May,<strong>BNP</strong> <strong>Paribas</strong> was awardedthe Expatriation Trophy.This trophy is awarded to the companythat is judged to have the most innovative policyfor assisting expatriate employees.The 12-member jury consistsof specialists in international business,international law, human resourcesand social welfare.RemunerationRemuneration levels are set in each countryin accordance with a fair and objective systembased on specific parameters including function,level of expertise and responsibility.With the assistance of external consultants,almost 3,500 positions have been analysedand compared against external benchmarks.Employee benefits and welfareThe Group has a long-standing employee benefitpolicy aimed at providing a high levelof protection to its employees.In <strong>2004</strong>, <strong>BNP</strong> <strong>Paribas</strong> worked on harmonising itsoverall employee benefit procedures, particularlyoutside France, with the aim of ensuring greaterconsistency between the different local systems.Following this review, in a large numberof countries defined benefit plans still in forcewere converted into defined contribution plans.In France, in line with new accounting standards,<strong>BNP</strong> <strong>Paribas</strong> implemented a number of specificmeasures in relation to the employee healthinsurance plan (Mutuelle du Groupe <strong>BNP</strong> <strong>Paribas</strong>)and pension plans which had already been closed.In addition, further to the success of the flexiblepersonal risk plan in place within the parentcompany, <strong>BNP</strong> <strong>Paribas</strong> made the system availableto all of the Group’s subsidiaries.For its Retail Banking operations in sub-SaharanAfrica, <strong>BNP</strong> <strong>Paribas</strong> is taking all the steps withinits power to improve the welfare protection ofits local employees and their families. Employeesin this area are provided with health insuranceplans which cover the cost of medicalconsultations and hospitalisationfor both themselves and their families.
