In this area,the Foundation works with pre-eminent scientificinstitutions to select beneficiaries. It exceeded the hopes of its founders, reachingan average of over 500,000 visitors per year – more thanhalf of them under 20 years old. Built on the historical siteof D-Day and the Battle of Normandy, this young museumhas been able to grow by developing an innovative scientificand cultural programme that places the visitor at the centreof the experience, in the position of privileged witness toHistory. The Memorial Book (Le Grand Livre du Mémorial),published at the time of the 60th anniversary of D-Day,provides a vast panorama covering the rise of fascismbetween the two World Wars, the Nazi Occupationin France, Deportation and Resistance, the Cold Warand prospects for peace.Established in 1888, the InstitutPasteur of Paris contributesto disease prevention and treatmentthrough research, teaching and publichealth initiatives. As part of its supportfor research projects,the <strong>BNP</strong> <strong>Paribas</strong> Foundationdecided to give its backingto the Genetics of Biofilms <strong>La</strong>boratoryrun by Professor Jean-Marc Ghigoat Institut Pasteur.
