Company benefit schemesSee Sustainable Development section of Annual Report, under Human ResourcesDevelopment – Ongoing Skills Development.The numbers of employees at <strong>BNP</strong> <strong>Paribas</strong> units in mainland France enrolledin training for a professional qualification were as follows:- 516 for the Brevet Professionnel banking diploma (which involved one halfyearlymodule in <strong>2004</strong> against two in 2003);- 613 for the BTS banking qualification;- 221 for the Institut Technique de Banque.The Group’s training centre in the Louveciennes campus recorded the followingresults:<strong>2004</strong> 2003 ChangeNumber of courses 1,025 944 +8.58%Number of trainees 21,065 20,963 +0.49%Number of trainee days 42,655 41,601 +2.53%In counting the number of disabled employees, it seemed more relevant to counteach person individually rather than take into account the concept of disabilityunits. Thus there were 798 disabled employees within <strong>BNP</strong> <strong>Paribas</strong> SA in mainlandFrance at 31 December <strong>2004</strong> – 418 men and 380 women.The Group has kept up its efforts to help disabled persons remain employed,for example by adapting the work environment for hearing-impaired personsor redesigning a vehicle and taking on taxi expenses for persons with motordisabilities.An “Accessibility” working group, bringing together staff from the SIG, RHG, IMEX,GPG functions and from the French Retail Banking business, has set itself the taskof ensuring that disabled employees and clients enjoy better access to informationon banking websites. As a result, the recruitment website has been redesigned tobe usable by sight impaired persons with appropriate e<strong>qui</strong>pment.Institut des Cent Arpents, a sheltered workshop established by <strong>BNP</strong> in 1981 andmanaged by Mutuelle <strong>BNP</strong> <strong>Paribas</strong>, employs 98 disabled people.In 2003 Handicoach, a non-governmental organisation dedicated to helping thedisabled, performed a study assessing the quality of the company’s integrationof persons with disabilities. Its findings reflected favourably on <strong>BNP</strong> <strong>Paribas</strong> SA’ssystems for welcoming and integrating these colleagues, and also suggestedfurther improvements.To support the charitable endeavours of staff members, the <strong>BNP</strong> <strong>Paribas</strong> Foundationonce again carried out a program of grants, Coup de pouce. In <strong>2004</strong>, as in 2003,fighting the consequences of disabilities was at the forefront of employees’ concernsand charitable commitments, alongside international solidarity.With nine other major companies, <strong>BNP</strong> <strong>Paribas</strong> decided to support Fondation duSport, which funds and partners initiatives to fight social exclusion through sport.One of the first projects selected by the foundation was presented by CAP-SAAA, anorganisation whose aim is to alter the way disabilities are perceived. As part of theproject, school pupils are introduced to the daily reality of disabilities, for exampleby being invited to practice basketball in a wheelchair with disabled persons.In Spain, <strong>BNP</strong> <strong>Paribas</strong> is a partner of two organisations, Fundación AFIM, whichhelps the disabled find their place in society, and Fundación Gil Gayarre, dedicatedto assisting Down Syndrome victims.National-level social and cultural activities are administered by the Central WorksCouncil.
