The publications are used to promote awarenessof social and environmental responsibilitiesacross all business lines.At the beginning of <strong>2004</strong> access to the B2Eportal was expanded. This personalised workenvironment is now available in a numberof versions, in French or English, and givesemployees access to relevant and structuredinformation which is tailored to their businessline, geographic location and/or subsidiary.Aside from the various pages that are availablefor employees to view, peer support groups havebeen established to encourage staff to learn andex<strong>change</strong> information specific to their businessand therefore build group-wide relationships.Regular employee surveysAs part of an overarching management monitoringplan, <strong>BNP</strong> <strong>Paribas</strong> SA has conducted employeesurveys on a regular basis since the 1990s.These surveys enable the Group to gaugegeneral morale within its main entities andthe information is passed onto unit heads to helpthem to orientate their management strategies.The survey carried out in early <strong>2004</strong> revealed thatthe level of employee satisfaction and motivationin France is significantly greater than the generalnational average, as measured over the sameperiod by independent research institutes.Encouraging employee suggestionsThe structure used to integrate the suggestionsof staff working for <strong>BNP</strong> <strong>Paribas</strong> SA is calledÉtincelle. Under this organisation, localcommittees approve proposals which areapplicable at the local level, and a nationalteam reviews and validates proposals thathave a possible bearing on the organisationor IT applications of the Group as a whole.<strong>2004</strong> saw a rise in the number of suggestionsput forward, thanks to contributions made bystaff at the recently created Client RelationshipCentres. Proposals receiving the highest bonusesin France – those that apply on a national level– are also on the rise, reflecting the qualityof the proposals being made.Partnering employees involved in charitable workThe <strong>BNP</strong> <strong>Paribas</strong> Foundation, the Group’s vehiclefor corporate patronage, develops partnerships incultural, medical and humanitarian areas. Whilethe Group does not seek to steer the commitmentsof its employees, it is eager to offer support toemployees involved in charitable projects througha grants programme run by the Foundation, calledCoup de Pouce au Personnel.As in 2003, requests for grants in <strong>2004</strong> centredon the theme of underprivileged children.Assistance took the form of donationsof IT e<strong>qui</strong>pment and vehicles adaptedfor young disabled people, as well as helpwith event organisation.In France, thanks to the efforts of its employees,the Group was one of the largest contributorsto the “Christmas Meal Voucher Appeal”launched by the Restos du Cœur association.Stock market and finance industry telethon<strong>BNP</strong> <strong>Paribas</strong> held on to its position asno. 1 contributor to the stock market and financeindustry telethon in <strong>2004</strong>, with 375 runnersrepresenting <strong>BNP</strong> <strong>Paribas</strong> out of a totalof 1,282. Group employees completed9,229 circuits of the Bourse in Paris out ofa total of 31,671 circuits run in relay overa 24-hour period. This impressive achievementraised a total of EUR 450,000.
