AtGentive IST-4-027529-STP - Attentive Agents for Collaborative Learners1.4 Introduction to Platforms1.4.1 AtGentSchoolAtGentSchool is an e-learning system that allows students to work on assignments incollaboration with experts outside the school. The system revolves around the “Projectscreen” (see Figure 3). The project was designed in collaboration with the Czechteachers, especially for the AtGentSchool pilot. The student’s overall assignment is tocompare two countries – New Zealand to Czech Republic – before deciding in whichcountry they would prefer to live. In order to achieve this, the students have eightpossible learning activities (tasks), which they work on in order – in collaboration with theexpert – to acquire the knowledge necessary to make their final decision.The students have a significant degree of control in their selection of learning goals andlearning activities. Previous tests of the Ontdeknet software have shown that studentswith good regulation skills learn successfully with experts in this environment. However,many students will benefit from extra support in their collaboration with the expert.
