AtGentive IST-4-027529-STP - Attentive Agents for Collaborative Learners6.6 Strategic Evaluation - ConclusionThe project approach of addressing the problem from several perspectivescorresponding to the strengths and expertise of individual participants has proved veryfruitful. AtGentive has met its principle objectives to successfully design and run two pilotstudies which advance the support and understanding of attention with regard toeducational software. While the support is situated in particular applications, knowledgegained may have implications in a wider context. This work has contributed acrossseveral disciplines in the research community – teaching and learning, collaborativesystems, human- computer interface, and intelligent agents to mention but a few – andoffers a basis for continuing research in this new and expanding area.In particular Conceptual Framework provided a basis for further studies in support forcontext restore, task cueing, attention support in ubiquitous environments which arecurrently running at AUP. It has increased understanding of the role of emotion in thepresentation of the embodied agent, and generated further research into emotion andembodied agents at Cantoche. It has also inspired further research on user personalityand reaction to interventions at OBUThe development of AtGentSchool has promoted better understanding of how toconfigure the agent for maximum attention, and a better understanding of the student. Thus generating further research at Ontdeknet and AUP.The development of AtGentNet has demonstrated the importance of motivation, andpotential has been identified for generating group ethos and engendering motivationwhich will be further developed within the IST framework. Attention in a social contextlinked to impact, and social exposure. It has also developed an awareness of privacyissues which are currently under investigation with AtGentNet.Researchers at AUP and OBU ran a successful workshop on Attention support inUbiquitous Computing Environments, generating an ongoing community and a Specialissue of International Journal Behaviour and Information Technology.Del 4.4: AtGentive Final Evaluation Report page 89
