AtGentive IST-4-027529-STP - Attentive Agents for Collaborative Learners• Procedural interventions for Regulative problems• Content interventions for Cognitive problems• Process interventions for Meta-cognitive problemsA key aspect of the Conceptual Framework is that such interventions may be driven bythe monitoring of events. Such events will be discerned from as wide a variety of sourcesas possible. The main categories of event are as follows:• Application events (e.g. The user has started a task in the application, newinformation is available for the user)• User events (e.g. The user indicates that (s)he wants to be notified about certainevents, or that a task should have a high priority)• Tracking events (e.g. The user has been idle for some time, a resource has beenused by other users)The relationship between these different elements of the Conceptual Framework isillustrated in Figure 2. Support is broadly categorised as that of the user’s immediatefocus of attention (what they are concentrating on at this moment) and their broadervoluntary attentional choices (what they may choose to attend to next).EventsApplicationUserTrackingProblemsInterventionsRegulativeProceduralCognitiveContentMeta-cognitiveProcessScenariosAreas of supportUser’s focus selectionAttentional choicesLevels of supportPerceptual – “Bottom-up” processesDeliberative – “Top-down” processesOperational – Managing interruptionsMeta-cognitive – Self-supportFigure 2 - Relationship between areas of the Conceptual FrameworkIt is hypothesised that these events, which may be captured and analysed by AtGentiveagents, will reveal the interaction paths between the essential elements of User(s),Application (Ontdeknet, ICDT), Environment (external events) and the AtGentiveagent(s). Further, this observation will reveal the user(s)' attentional choices, preferences, and possible future foci. It is this analysis that results in the agent'sinterventions. These interactions are exemplified by a number of user scenarios (seedeliverable D1.3 – “AtGentive conceptual framework and application scenarios” – forfurther details). A number of these scenarios are implemented within AtGentive, asdescribed in Section 2.Del 4.4: AtGentive Final Evaluation Report page 3
