AtGentive IST-4-027529-STP - Attentive Agents for Collaborative LearnersAll students from any one country were allocated the same group (Control orExperimental). This ensured that students most likely to discuss the platform in the initialstages were seeing the same interface. Countries were allocated randomly into groups.13 students were in the Experimental group (using the new AtGentNet version of theICDT platform) and 14 students were in the Control group (using the same version of theplatform, but with the advanced features disabled or not visible). Participants were notexplicitly made aware of the difference in the two systems, and each participant couldsee and interact with all other participants, regardless of group. The user pilot took place in two stages:• General use – all participants, 24th May to 4th September 2007• Simulation Exercise – self-selected participants, 5th September to 10th October2007The second stage comprised a business simulation exercise. Participants were sent anemail asking them to take part in the simulation by watching an online video presentationdescribing a business situation in which the fictional Eagle Racing company attempts tofind sponsors for their motor racing team. After the first video participants were asked todiscuss the dilemma and vote secretly on their choice of action (one of two available).Participants were then allocated into one of two groups, according to their decision. Forthe next three weeks each group then discussed future dilemmas using a separateprivate discussion area on the platform.AtGentNet was developed using the Extreme Programming methodology (Beck, 1999).This requires an iterative process of develop-test cycles. However, it is crucial to bear inmind the limited time available for AtGentNet users to use and report on the system. Thebusiness professionals involved (see Section 3.1.3) were not able to make multiple testsof the system. Therefore, the partners and user representatives at STC offered feedbackon AtGentNet during the development stage. The platform then remained effectivelystable during the user pilot.2.2.8 Timetable of eventsBelow is shown the timings for evaluation activities related to AtGentNet.MayUser evaluation pilot began with an introduction to AtGentNet for TRIM participants atmeeting in Lidköping, Sweden on 24th May 2007September 2007“Eagle Racing” simulation began on 5th September 2007 with interested (self-selected)TRIM participantsInitial questionnaire – users’ background and use of and attitudes towards the ICDTplatform and the animated agent – sent out 20th September 2007October 2007“Eagle Racing” simulation completed on 10th October 2007.Del 4.4: AtGentive Final Evaluation Report page 19
