MAINTENANCEChange Coolant--- twice a year (in spring and autumn)1NOTE: Before leaving the Hitachi Factory, the coolingsystem is filled with a mixture of water andGenuine Hitachi Long-Life Coolant.As long as Genuine Hitachi Long-Life Coolant isused, the service intervals between changingthe coolant is once every two years, or every4000 hours, whichever comes first.CAUTION: Do not loosen the radiator cap untilthe system is cool. Loosen the cap slowly to thestop. Release all pressure before removing thecap.M178-07-0321. Park the machine on a solid level surface. Groundthe bucket. Turn the brake switch on the steeringcolumn console to the P (parking) position. Stop theengine.2. Remove the radiator cap. Open drain cocks (1) and(2) on the radiator and engine block to allow thecoolant to drain completely.3. Close drain cocks (1) and (2). Fill the radiator with tapwater and a radiator cleaner agent. Start the engineand run at a speed slightly higher than slow idle;when the needle of the temperature gauge reachesthe green zone, run the engine for about ten moreminutes.4. Stop the engine and open drain cock (1). Flush outthe cooling system with tap water, until draining wateris clear. This helps remove rust and sediment.5. Close drain cock (1). Fill the radiator with tap waterand an anti-rust agent or antifreeze at the specifiedmixing ratio. When adding coolant, do so slowly toavoid mixing air bubbles in the system.Run the engine to sufficiently bleed the air from thecooling system.6.
