Figure 12: Equilibrium conversion <strong>of</strong> syn<strong>the</strong>sis gas.<br />

Figure 13: The effect <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> H2/CO ratio on DME productivity <strong>an</strong>d materials utilization.<br />

Air Products <strong>an</strong>d Chemicals also drew <strong>the</strong> same conclusion[103]. A very strong<br />

dependence <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> DME productivity on <strong>the</strong> H2/CO ratio in <strong>the</strong> fresh feed gas is observed. The<br />

maximum productivity occurs at a H2/CO ratio <strong>of</strong> 1.0. The productivity drops by about 65% <strong>an</strong>d<br />

44% when <strong>the</strong> ratio ch<strong>an</strong>ges to 0.5 <strong>an</strong>d 1.5. Since our syngas H2/CO ratio is about 0.8 which is<br />

close to 1, we will directly use <strong>the</strong> cle<strong>an</strong>ed syngas.<br />

3.3.2.2 Catalyst system <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> single-stage DME syn<strong>the</strong>sis<br />

The single-step DME syn<strong>the</strong>sis catalysts are powdered catalysts contains between about<br />

75 <strong>an</strong>d about 90 wt % copper-containing meth<strong>an</strong>ol syn<strong>the</strong>sis catalyst <strong>an</strong>d <strong>the</strong> remainder <strong>of</strong> said<br />

powdered catalyst consists essentially <strong>of</strong> meth<strong>an</strong>ol dehydration catalyst[104]. The meth<strong>an</strong>ol<br />

syn<strong>the</strong>sis catalyst is Cu/ZnO/Al2O3 <strong>an</strong>d meth<strong>an</strong>ol dehydration catalyst is alumina. To main <strong>the</strong><br />

catalyst activity, stability <strong>an</strong>d reaction activity, 270 o C <strong>an</strong>d 50 bar are chosen as <strong>the</strong> operation<br />

conditions.<br />
