This result emphasizes the importantrole that safety committees play to monitor safety performance. Safety committee is acommittee that promotes health and safety in the workplace, with membersrepresenting employees and management from all sections of an organization. Safetycommittees will monitor performance of general contractor and all subcontractorsensuring that they deliver services to equivalent standards of health and safety andthat management is in place to rectify shortfalls. Since the committee combines allproject parties, transparency will be evident while monitoring project activities withregard to safety."The safety committee is an arena of different interests groups of safety" factor wasranked in the second position among safety committee group with RII = 0.668 andwas ranked in the 38 th position among all groups factors of quality. This result showsthat safety committee is a combination of project parties including project manager,safety engineer, site engineer, foreman, labor, etc. The committee consists of laborand management representatives who meet on a regular basis to deal with health andsafety issues. The advantage of a safety committee is that the in-depth practicalknowledge of specific tasks (labor) is brought together with the larger overview ofcompany policies, and procedures (management). Another significant benefit is theenhancement of a cooperative attitude among all parties of the project toward solvinghealth and safety problems."The company senior manager always chairs the safety committee" factor was rankedin the third position with RII = 0.533 and was ranked in the 48 th position among allgroups factors of quality. This result shows that the company is concerned withsafety. Company manager chairing the safety committee means that the company topmanagement is in full view of all safety related problems on jobsite. Chairman beingthe company manager is the decision maker who can approve proposed solutions toany safety problem raised by labor during committee meetings. Respondents ranked itthe lowest within the safety committee group. They may have considered that the111
