Hunter e36 • Water SystemsThe fresh and raw water systems consist of the followingcomponents:••••••••••Dockside Water SupplyFresh Water Tanks and FillsFresh Water PumpA/C Cooling PumpRaw Water Pick-up and StrainerA/C Pick-up and StrainerGenerator Cooling Pick-up and StrainerEngine Seacocks and StrainersFixtures and ValvesWater Heater9.1 Water Tanks (on board water supply)The fresh water system on your boat has one water tanktotaling 75 gallons (284L) and one fresh water fill (Fig.9.1) located at the bow. The vent for the tank is locatedon the side of the hull, at the fill. See the arrangementdrawing at the end of this chapter for locations.! CAUTION !Always ensure that when filling the fresh water tanksthat you are filling through the fresh water fill. Otherfills or pump outs may visually look the same. Fillingfresh water in to the waste pump out could floodyour boat, or filling the diesel fuel tank could damageyour fuel system.9.1.2 Fresh Water SanitationNOTE: Be sure and read the OEM manuals that are suppliedwith your boat, the next section is taken from one of thosemanuals.Sanitizing Potable water systems require periodic maintenanceto deliver a consistent flow of fresh water.Depending on use and the environment the system issubjected to, sanitizing is recommended prior to storingand before using the water system after a period of storage.Systems with new components, or ones that havebeen subjected to contamination, should also be disinfectedas follows:NOTE: The sanitizing procedure is in conformance with theapproved procedures of the US Public Health Service.)1. Use the following methods to determine the amount ofcommon household bleach needed to sanitize the tank:A. Multiply “gallons of tank capacity” by 0.13; the resultis the ounces of bleach needed to sanitize the tank (30gallons X .13 = 3.9 oz bleach).Note: Whenever servicing the fresh water pumps, shut off theDC breaker for the water system.9.1.1 To fill the fresh water tank:1. Make sure the potable water supply is suitable fordrinking. Not all potable water is drinking water. Checkwith the dockmaster if necessary.2. Open the water tank fill fitting. Fig. 9.13. Using the hose from the potable water supply, fill thetank until water starts flowing through the vent.4. Close the fill fitting.Fig. 9.1B. Use the number of liters of tank capacity to determinethe number of milliliters of bleach needed to sanitizethe tank (120 liters of tank capacity = 120 milliliters ofbleach).2. Mix into solution the proper amount of bleach within acontainer of water3. Pour the solution (water/bleach) into the tank and fillthe tank with potable water.4. Open all faucets (hot and cold) allowing the water torun until the distinct odor of chlorine is detected.5. The standard solution must have four (4) hours ofcontact time to disinfect completely. Doubling the solutionconcentration allows for contact time of one (1) hour.6. When the contact time is completed, drain the tank.9.2
