Kind of people rescued: The people rescued often sufferfrom acute illnesses such as AIDS, Cancer and Kidneyfailures. Others are very old and weak while some arementally and physically challenged. Most of these peopleare in their last stage of life.How they are treated: All the residents are treated with care.Raja and his team make every effort to make the life of theresidents comfortable and memorable. Raja has two fulltime helpers, Mani Meghalay and her husband Madan whocook, do all the cleaning and maintenance work.“Some of them are violent and dangerous, especially whenthey are first rescued. They hurt at you, but patience bringsthem around,” says Raja. Misguided fortitude often makesthem run back to the streets, as they are unable to come interms with their own helplessness. But Raja takes time tocounsel them.Celebrations: Birthdays of the residents are decided by themembers itself and they are celebrated with a lot ofgratitude. Other occasions are also celebrated in the home.Last wishes: One of the remarkable services offered here isthat every effort is made to fulfill the last wish of a dyingperson. Some residents, in their final moments of life havedesired to eat an apple; an egg or some sweets. Some haveasked for a good meal while others pray and peacefullyleave the world. Raja considers it his privilege to be able tocare for these people in their final moments. Many residentsof the home die in Raja’s arms.Deaths in the campus: In the past 9 years, 175 people havedied in the campus. Every month minimum of 5 -10 peopledie in the campus. Every month more than 10-15 people arerescued and brought to Home of Hope. Cremation, thebodies are burnt outside in a government crematorium.• COMMUNITY CONTEXT The New Ark Mission, Home of hope is located in a ruralenvironment situated for the people Physically and mentallychallenged, also Senior citizens and children’s and animals.The climate is not too cold or too hot. We try to develop theprojects with the least disturbance to the environment. Thebuildings are made very normally and also comfortable tostay. There are many languages spoken in The New ArkMission, Home of hope. The economical environment isquite typical. The New Ark Mission, Home of hope issituated more then 15 km outside Bangalore on Doddagubbivillage. They are in side of the main road and there is aregular bus service to and from the city and also thisorganization near by Visthar and next to KarnatakaRehabilitation Centre.• VOLUNTEER’S REQUIREMENTS Open-minded Volunteers.Adjustable capacity.Who can love the poor & PWD and senior citizens.Helping nature.Hard working.Smiling face.Medical care.Helping in Kitchen.Campus Cleaning.Out door & in door activities.Helping to rescue people with staff.
