Code: 40• NAME OF THE PROJECT NIREEKSHE• LOCATION Mysore, Karnataka• CONTACT PERSON Hemamalni Krupakar• THEME OR TYPE OF PROJECT Learning and activity centre for special children• AIMS OF THE PROJECT Nirrekshe is a learning and activity centre forspecial children. We have children with variousdisabilities such as Mild and moderate retardation.Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Attention Deficit HyperActivity disorder(ADHD). We take children withIQ not less than 45. Centre works between 10.00amto 3.30pm, Monday to Friday. We have 30 childrenwith such disabilities. We also have 12 childrenother than these who are having learningdisabilities and they are trained for taking 10thgrade board examination through National Openschooling. In total we have 42 children. All arebetween the age of 06 yrs to 18 years. We have 15teaching staff. Out of which 4 are coming here forvoluntary service. We stress on the academics, wealso give them therapies like dance, yoga. We teachthem some vocational skills, craftsetc.• PROJECT’S ACTIVITIES music and dance, arts and crafts, which not onlyhelp the students to develop academically but alsophysically, socially and emotionally.We work between 10..am to 3.30pm every dayfrom Monday to Friday. Teaching staff works onSaturdays except on 2nd Saturday, between1000am to 1.00pm.• COMMUNITY CONTEXT Activity centre is located in upper middleclassresidential area in Mysore.Mysore is as it is safe and clean city. Even centre islocated in a decent residential area. Centre giveclean and hygiene atmosphere forworking. Need not worry about risks of diseases.• VOLUNTEER’S REQUIREMENTS All we want is a person who has love and concernfor such children. Patience is the main ingredientfor working here. Little flair for learning newlanguage is and added advantage. Age and genderwe are not worried of.• VOLUNTEER’S TASKS 1. Volunteers learn how to teach disabled children.2. They are given orientation on such topics.3. They are allowed to handle the childeindependently4. They are taught to make case study. Individualeducational plans for each child and execute it.5. They are allowed to take part in all day to dayactivities.• HOST SITUATION Accommodation will also be provided in a safe andclean place.
