Code: 35• NAME OF THE PROJECT Ooty children's home• LOCATION Thoppur, Tamilnadu• CONTACT PERSON Mr. Vernon Douglas• THEME OR TYPE OF PROJECT Child Care Management• AIMS OF THE PROJECT OOTY CHILDREN’S HOME is a project of “WESERVE CHARITABLE TRUST”, Reg’d,Bangalore, and serves abused, neglected,abandoned, wayward, or orphaned children andteens. We provide a holistic approach to thisservice with emphasis on to the all round growth ofthe child in a safe and secure environment. Weadmit them on criteria that are laid out by ourmanagement policy and are looking into theirsecular, social, economical and political care whichwill elevate them from a level they came to anotherlevel. Children are cared holistically with emphasison proper counseling and guidance.We provide not only food, shelter and clothing butalso an arena of growth in the self respectedregime. Anyone who reaches at or interacts withour children can notice a space that has alreadybeen provided to grow by themselves. Anyone whoparticipates and contributes in our endeavor ofhuman endowment will be considered as someonegreat. Gardening, Assisting teaching of spokenEnglish / Science, Reading Indian democracy,religions, culture, environment, wildlife, areprovided to the volunteers on arrival. Assistingteaching of spoken English / Science, Assistingchildren’s Home need with day to day schedule andPlay time with children to be used creatively at thevolunteers discretion.Note:1. Once a month there will be a review meetingwith the organizers.2. The volunteer will be expected to take part in thechildren’s outing for a picnic / camp / see nature.3. Whenever we will have a community eventplanned the volunteer is expected to participate.4. A volunteer’s Day will be organized before theclose of their stay.• PROJECT’S ACTIVITIES Education, Culture and Sports, Children andYouth• COMMUNITY CONTEXT Thoppur is between Salam and Darmapuri. It isalso junction for METTUR Road. It is a smalltown, located off the high 47. Thoppur canal isfamous in the highway• VOLUNTEER’S REQUIREMENTS Adjacent to the children’s home there are ethnicgroups of various religious faiths and languages butmostly with the Tamil language. This area isadministered by the local elected members from thePanchayat (Village) level to the Zilla Parishad(District) level. The religious faiths of this area arecontrolled by certain doctrines prescribed by each
groups and are providing support to the socioeconomic–religious growth and peacefulsituations. The community at large are affiliated tovarious political parties of their choice. Theadministration of the local community is totally inline with the government’s policy and is enforcedby the Collector (District Administration) and thePolice to maintain peace and harmony.• VOLUNTEER’S TASKS The volunteers will partner with the Staff in theirtask to accomplish the goals and objectives of theProject as proposed by the team management.• HOST SITUATION Host situation and food will be available within theproject area.
