The total population of the BangaloreNorth-WestBangalore Urban has a population of 56 lakhs andof this an estimated 5% population are persons withdisabilities - people who find difficulty in walking,seeing, hearing or have intellectual impairments.The general health condition in slums of Bangaloreis poor and even though medi-care facilities areadequate, it is unaffordable by the poor. TheChildren with Disability belonging to these poor
communities are totally marginalized andexploited. They have no vocational skills and areconsidered credit unworthy. There is a tremendousshortage of housing among these communities andthey live in highly unhygienic conditions leading toill health. Drinking water and sanitation facilitiesare also lacking. The ecological condition has alsobecome fragile. The benefits of the developmentschemes of the government fail to reach theseneedy people. The seriously emerging problem isevacuating the slums due to pressure fromcapitalist, Government basic facilities are allbecoming privatization. SAMA foundation hasdone the survey to identify the issues in thecommunity and problems faced by the persons withdisability with special attention have been giventowards children with disability.• VOLUNTEER’S REQUIREMENTS The volunteer has to be adjustable to all kind ofliving and working conditions.The volunteers should be good with people andchildren.The volunteer should be willing to find his ownwork.• VOLUNTEER’S TASKS Community study, case study and any particularissue pertaining to children with disability.Participating in our daily routine programme likechild activity centre, home based education and daycare centre for children with cerebral palsyAssigning few works in the administration anddocumentationInitiating Thrift and Credit society in new areas.• HOST SITUATION Food and accommodation will be provide in hostfamily
