Today we are a registered Non GovernmentOrganization under section 80G that focuses onempowerment of the economically and sociallyweak through the Arts.The foundation is an offshoot of the WilliamJoseph International Academy for Performing Artsstarted by Dr Ashley William Joseph, a renownedmusician in the Country. The Academy has beenoperational since 2003 and already has severalaccolades to its credit; the most prestigious one isbeing selected by the international OlympicCommittee to record the theme song for the 2008Beijing Olympics with a 300 piece children’schoir.Through The Foundation, we have already startedoutreach programs in slums and orphanagesthroughout the city of Bangalore. These programsare aimed at educating and improving the lives ofhomeless children who have no access to Music orany other form of Art. We are currently workingwith over 130 children and youth in the city.AIMS :1. To identify and nurture and develop thecreative talents of each child in an attemptto expose them to the plethora ofopportunities available to them.2. To build self esteem and self confidencelevels of the children through interactivesessions with our volunteers and publicperformances.3. To lay emphasis on the importance of selfdiscipline and self sufficiency.4. To raise the standard of education andimprove linguistic skills in an attempt tobridge the gap between the children andthose from the higher economic strata.5. To provide educative programs focusingon relevant issues such as Environmentalissues, Human Rights and other socioeconomicproblems prevalent in thecountry using the Arts as a medium.6. To provide guidance and direction to thechildren.7. To provide them with a medium and anoutlet to voice their reality true feelings.
• PROJECT’S ACTIVITIES Why Homeless Children?We decided to start our first project with homelesschildren because they are one of the mostvulnerable groups in the city. These children havebeen abandoned by their ‘so called’ loved ones atthe most crucial time of their lives. Thus withoutadequate care and guidance many of them tend togo stray or fall prey to vicious predators.Through our project “Art and its expression - OurLand is Calling for you”, we intend to identifythese children and interact with them in an attemptto guide them and expose them to the opportunitiesavailable to them as well as the dangers lurkingclose by. We also intend to mould them intoresponsible conscientious citizens who can voicetheir reality and inspire our society to mend itsways. Thus through these children we aim atvocalizing many prevalent issues likeEnvironmental dilapidation, human right issues etc.Why Arts?• Rabindranath Tagore once said “Musicfills the infinite between two souls”• Victor Hugo the famous painter said that,“Music expresses that which cannot be putinto words and that which cannot remain• Silent.”Music is a universal language that can breakthrough all cultural, linguistic, social, religious andcaste barriers. Music is created from the heart andmolded by emotion. Music has the power to causeemotions to well up within us. The indisputablefact about music is its power to evoke emotions.Music is an extremely versatile medium ofcommunication. It is capable of exploring all thefeatures that are used in verbal communication.Moreover, it does so in an explicit and structuredway, which makes it an interesting and usefulwindow into human communication, in general.Our Methodology To conduct various workshops on Music,Dance, Film making, Theatre, Fine Arts on aregular basis. To have interactive sessions with the childrengiving them the opportunity to voice theirneeds and opinions. To create an educative kit comprising of CDs,videos, text that can be distributed and used byall.The students will learn basic techniques aboutmusic, history, construction of instruments, how touse recycle material, theoretical classes with
