Code: 09• NAME OF THE PROJECT AVORD• LOCATION Lakshmipura village, Kolar• CONTACT PERSON Mr. A Philips Samuel kumar• THEME OR TYPE OF PROJECT Works regarding health, antidiscrimination,gender equality and rural/urban development.• AIMS OF THE PROJECT AVORD is an independent non-profit making social serviceorganization, established to address the social, economical,educational problems of the downtrodden community. Themain force behind establishing an NGO is to restore thepoor, needy and downtrodden people for their basic rightsfor dignified survival and hence to create a just society ofcommunal integration, social responsible, economicallyindependent and sustained.By keeping this as our guiding principle we at AVORDhave been implementing several social, economical,educational, environmental development activities since ourinception.• PROJECT’S ACTIVITIES Major Activities:Residential School for school drop out children: We havebeen running a special residential school for school dropout children in Kurigepalli village of Srinivasapura taluk.Vulnerable children have been facilitated with food, shelter,evening class, vocational education and personalitydevelopment activities.OLD AGE HOME: We have been running an old age homefor 45 senior citizens in Sugatur village of Kolar taluk.Senior citizens who are ignored, neglected and thrown outof their families have a comfortable life leading here withproper care, love, affection, health, food and residentialfacilities.Women SHGs: We have promoted more than 256 SHGs ofsocially exploited, deprived, destitute women in Kolardistrict.The main concept behind establishing and maintainingthese SHGs is to promote savings, internal lending, andgroup entrepreneurship development and to see a possibleeconomic independence and social dignity.Most of the groups are Bank link aged and imparted by thesuitable trainings.Our target group is women, children, old age people,youths, from the ultra poor background and most of thetime belongs to SC/ST, Muslim and Dalith Christiancommunities.• COMMUNITY CONTEXT AVORD located in a border place to Andhra pradesh,which lies in semi arid and forest area. This place is ignoredby the development since a long while because of theborder, remoteness and no social or political willingness.Socially this place is having the high percentage of peoplebelong to SC/ST communities and who are mostly landless.Their main occupation is labour work and partial migrationwill be there during non-harvesting season. Economicallythese people lies in ultra poor condition and there is a highpercentage of school drop our or child labour system.Girl child trafficking, early marriage is the other major
urning problems of the community.By observing and experiencing the crucial and patheticcondition of the disadvantaged community we at AVORDhave been implementing several educational, economical,advocating andrehabilitating activities for the well being ness of theunfortunate community.• VOLUNTEER’S REQUIREMENTS We would like to see the volunteers of good healthcondition, who are able to travel in remote places;volunteers of adapting a social friendly nature wouldappreciate greatly. If Volunteers having teaching skills,documentation skills, Nursing skills with computerknowledge are highly appreciable.We prefer female youth volunteers who have a strongcommitment over development• VOLUNTEER’S TASKS We at AVORD have a work plan for 1 year, 1 month, 1week and 1 day. This is because of evaluating our workwith every day and looking for a better achievement afterthe due period.As most of our activities are centralized with the objectivesof addressing rural disadvantaged communities, that tooparticularly prime victims like women, children and seniorcitizens. Thisprovides a vast subject to learn and understand theeconomic condition, education, communitybehavior with lower community people, their rituals, lifestyle, tendency towards selfdevelopment…etc.Volunteers will be assigned with a specific role andresponsibility during their pleasant stay with us.We are looking volunteers for our special school for schooldrop outs as English teachers, HRD facilitators, resourcepersons, computer teachers, health and hygiene care takersetcWe encourage volunteers to make field visits, attend themeetings, trainings, and document the whole project withSelf Help Groups.We are very grateful the volunteer, who cares, feeds andmaintain old age home during their stay. Volunteers areencouraged to implement their own projects as and whenthey feel it as an appropriate initiative.• HOST SITUATION Food and accommodation will be provide in host family
