Code: 16• NAME OF THE PROJECT Deccan Foundation• LOCATION Chintamani, Karnataka• CONTACT PERSON Mr. Venugopal• THEME OR TYPE OF PROJECT Health and education• AIMS OF THE PROJECT An equitable management of Human and Naturalresources with a major focus on Basic health, educationand reconstruction of rural economic system.• PROJECT’S ACTIVITIES DECCAN FOUNDATION is an independent, Non profitmaking social service Organization came in to being toaddress the social, economical, educational, health,environmental and other problems of the society andpeople to restore their basic rights for education, food,shelter, economic independence, social dignity andnational integrity.We have been implementing several developmentprojects related to Education, Community health andhygiene, integrated rural water supply, Womenempowerment, Micro finance development, IGP. Etcsince our inception.As our main approach is towards women empowerment,which are ignored and neglected by the society, we havebeen given a special focus and attention to an integrateddevelopment of them. Hence designed and implementedunique projects ensuring women’s active participation inthe community development.• COMMUNITY CONTEXT DECCAN FOUNDATION located in Kolar andChikkaballapura districts having its registered Headoffice at Bevahalli village, Padmaghatta post, Mulbagaltaluk and Regional project office at DECCANHOSPITAL campus, Near K.S.R.T.C depot, Chintamani,Chintamani taluk.Geographical condition: Both Mulbagal and Chintamanilies in semi arid region covered by Hill locks andundulated lands. Both the places are border and remoteareas and hence ignored by the development since a longwhile. This area does not have any river or canalresources for irrigation and the main source of water foragriculture and other industries is Bore wells. But most ofthe farmers relay only on rain fed agriculture.This is because of the majority in the strength of thefarmers belong less and marginal condition.The major crops of the place are Raagi, Paddy, pulses,Groundnut and Mango.Due to unseasonable rainfall and fluctuation in pricesfarmers are unable to relay on agriculture as theirpermanent source of income, but it made them mandatorybecause of less opportunity for alternative source ofincome.Socio-economic condition: This place is mostly coveredby highest percentage of SC/ST and Muslim communities
who are denied by their basic rights for food, shelter,education, employment, economic independence andsocial dignity due to no political willingness.Most of the people of these communities are daily wagelaborers and street vendors. They are the major anddisadvantaged people who have very less or no access tothe basic health, education, employment and other socialproblems. Their reorganization would address onlyduring special incidents.We at DECCAN FOUNDATION after observing andexperiencing the vulnerable condition of thesecommunities, initiated basic health related projects likeMobile OPD, Camps, Residential health care, Incomegeneration activities, Promotion of SHGs…etc.• VOLUNTEER’S REQUIREMENTS Health Volunteers:Volunteers from nursing background and doctors in anyDisciplineVolunteers for our ongoing rural development project-2.Volunteers who knows the subject well, dealing with thepatients of different ailments, able to manage the flow,time and medicine, cooperative and friendly with localcommunity and environment, Age and gender has no barbut we prefer youth female volunteers. Volunteers mayhave the context of understanding the local language.Since youth can take much workload and may need tocarry the responsibilities even in the late hours. They maynot be having much health problems.• VOLUNTEER’S TASKS As we have both Inpatient service and mobile camps,Volunteer doctors will be assigned to participate andserve in mobile OPD camps and other specialized healthcamps. As camps will not be organized very regularly,Volunteer Doctors will be served in the Hospital with ourregular duty Doctors patient and in-patient caring,attending minor and major operations, volunteer doctorshave a vast scope for learning and sharing of theirexperience, knowledge with the medical staff inDECCAN HOSPITAL.They themselves will be exposed to analyze the healthreforms, condition of vulnerable people in accessing thebasic health facilities, geographical, and social,educational and economic condition of the downtroddencommunity.• HOST SITUATION Food and accommodation will be provide in host family
