Code: 39• NAME OF THE PROJECT Sneha Kiran of Mysore Spastic Society• LOCATION Mysore, Karnataka• CONTACT PERSON Mr. James A.P• THEME OR TYPE OF PROJECT Providing specialized therapeutic and rehabilitationfacilities for children affected with Cerebral Palsy,• AIMS OF THE PROJECTSnehakiran Spastic Society of Mysore is an NGOproviding specialised therapeutic and rehabilitationfacilities for children affected with Cerebral Palsy,in the city of Mysore.To provide children with special needs, asupportive environment to nurture physical,emotional and social development, andopportunities to realize their fullest potential withinthe limits of the condition affecting them.To educate parents about the condition and helpthem form support groups.To create public awareness about Cerebral Palsyand the special needs of these children.Provide the necessary training to parents andcaretakers for better management of the child athome.Provide vocational training to those young adultswho can be gainfully engaged, either through openemployment or in a sheltered work-shop.Provide respite care for the severely affected anddependent individuals.Educate the public about Cerebral Palsy andthe need for community participation• PROJECT’S ACTIVITIES This is the only center providing all thenecessary services under one roof and having thesupport of dedicated medical and paramedicalprofessionals. Children are provided physio,occupational and speech therapy, special education,need-based aids and appliances and counseling forthe family. There are about 2000 children in andaround Mysore who need help. We are able toreach out to 60 children at present.The center caters to children from the age of 4+years to young adults. Children are grouped abilitywise for educational inputs.The rehabilitation of a child with CP is a challengeto all involved. Being a multifaceted problem, itrequires a multi-disciplinary team consisting ofphysiotherapists, occupational therapists, speechtherapists, special educators, medical professionals
