• COMMUNITY CONTEXT our intervention is in the slums of Mysore wherethere is high rate of child labour and schooldropouts• VOLUNTEER’S REQUIREMENTS Female volunteers would do better in this project.In the community, most of the time they will bedealing with children and mothers of children.Hence female volunteers will have better access.They should be ready to go to the community andthey should have a love for the poor especially poorchildren.Language and other skill are secondary.• VOLUNTEER’S TASKS They can do all that our staff are involved like –visiting the communities on a regular basis,establishing contact with the people and children,involving in the educative process by planning,attending meetings, organizing get-togethers,picnics and programs, camps, seminars, games.,competitions etc.The tasks can flexible according the interestsand abilities of the volunteers. They can fill thegaps in those areas where the organization isnot doing enough.The education and rehabilitation of child labourersand school dropouts in Mysore initiated by DonBosco is a community based project involving asmany people as possible. We follow a collaborativeand participatory approach including all those whoare interested in enhancing the rights of children.We know that the Volunteers can make significantcontribution in this project. They can be rolemodels for the marginalized children and theircommunities. They can promote an attitude ofservice that goes beyond caste, colour, gender, ornational boundaries and make people contributetowards a cause. Certain mindsets and wrongattitudes can be altered by the presence andinvolvement of volunteers.• HOST SITUATION <strong>ICDE</strong> will have to make arrangements for theirstay.
