Francis John• THEME OR TYPE OF PROJECT The education and rehabilitation of child labourersand school dropouts in Mysore• AIMS OF THE PROJECT The education and rehabilitation of child labourersand school dropouts in Mysore initiated by DonBosco is a community based project involving asmany people as possible. We follow a collaborativeand participatory approach including all those whoare interested in enhancing the rights of children.We know that the Volunteers can make significantcontribution in this project. They can be rolemodels for the marginalized children and theircommunities. They can promote an attitude ofservice that goes beyond caste, colour, gender, ornational boundaries and make people contributetowards a cause. Certain mindsets and wrongattitudes can be altered by the presence andinvolvement of volunteers.• PROJECT’S ACTIVITIES • A venture in which duties andresponsibilies towards children arehighlighted to be carried out by familiesand the community.• Community leaders who support andsupervise the programs on a daily basis.• Teachers and ‘BarefootCounselors/Mediators’ from the samecommunity.• Empowering the Community throughempowering Children.• Measuring the growth of Children and theimpact on the Community.• Creating common platforms for thecoming together of marginalized childrenand Community Leaders.• Inculcating love for marginalized childrenleading to structural change in the familyand society paving the way for sustainabledevelopment.• Forming Compassionate citizens in theSchool of Humanity.• Promotion of Volunteerism in theCommunity.• Respect for all faiths and tolerancetowards pluralism and diversity.• A system adhering to reason, centrality ofGod in daily life and love for all livingforms and the environment.• Creating social consciousness in thesociety.
