Code: 17• NAME OF THE PROJECT DEENABANDHU TRUST• LOCATION Chamarajanagara, Karnataka• CONTACT PERSON Mr. G.S.Jayadev• THEME OR TYPE OF PROJECT Education for poor and orphan children• AIMS OF THE PROJECT Deenabandhu is a voluntary organization committed tothe welfare of orphaned, abandoned and destitutechildren of all castes, creed & religion. Founded in1992, at Chamarajanagar, Karnataka, its activitieshave expanded to meet the needs of the community.Our goal is to give children basic education up to 10thstandard (16 years) and equip them with life orientedvocational training. Technical or college education isprovided for those with academic aptitude by linkingthem with sponsors. The children are educated withthe view of playing their part in mainstream societythrough an environment at home and school, whichstresses on the development of values.• PROJECT’S ACTIVITIES Home for the Boys: Presently there are 44 boys in theage group of three years to sixteen years under thecare of four house mothers/wardens and are housed incottages.Eight boys pursue college studies and are supportedthrough sponsorship. Some of them have settled wellafter completing the studies.Fifteen boys have opted the vocational program andhave found a stable placement.Home for the Girls: This was started in the year 2005with a first batch of nine girls in a rented house. Anexclusive composite building close to the existingschool campus is being built for them.Deenabandhu Primary School: The school wasfounded in 1998 to provide high quality free educationfor children or poor farmers, landless laborers andother socially marginalized groups, our specialprogram for children include Mid-day meal and Healtheducation.Our Objectives:Creative teaching with a variety of activities.Respect for each child’s unique personality andaptitude.Parental and Community involvement.Educational Resource Center: We are developing anEducational Resource Center to provide teachersupport activates for Government Primary Teachers.We adopt some Government Primary schools and traintheir teacher at workshops where they are encouragedto use locally available materials as teaching aids.Qualified resource persons provide sustained supportto the teachers at the classroom level.
