Unfortunately inregular schools, all children have to compulsorilylearn certain things, in a certain way, in a certaintime frame and have to pass the examination in firstattempt. If not, the particular child is labeled asunintelligent.Kaliyuva Mane firmly feel that an alternativeresidential school with 'School for children' policyinstead of 'children for school' policy is the urgentneed of the hour, especially for the development ofPhysically, Emotionally, Educationally,Economically and Socially challenged children.It is also involved in community development,youth and women empowerment in villages andenvironmental awareness programs.• PROJECT’S ACTIVITIES ACTIVITIES: In 2009 around 45 children areattending Kaliyuva Mane school and 25 of themlive in the residential home.Education: Children are given a new hope of life,by providing value based education including yoga,arts, crafts, music, drama, environmental awarenessprograms. The ones who permanently live inKaliyuva Mane also contribute to manage thehome.Environment: Kaliyuva Mane is highly ecoconscious.It had taken up several tree plantingprograms. Children are taught about recycling ofwastes, pollution control methods etc. KaliyuvaMane promotes eco-friendly hand made paper.Recycled paper is used for all its products.Kaliyuva Mane has been involved in spreadingenvironmental awareness from its inception. It hadput up a stall at 'Besige Mela' - exhibition inassociation with Seva Trust for creatingenvironmental awareness among the generalpublic. One of its kind Eco-Toilet had beenconstructed with the help of Zilla Panchayat."VANASUMA" is the project named for theenvironmental activities undertaken by DivyaDeepa. Recently Bio gas plant is constructed andwe use bio gas for cooking.Community Development : Divyadeepa hasundertaken several community development works:• Regular health camps for the benefit ofneighboring villagers• Sports facilities for rural youth• Employment opportunities for rural youth
• COMMUNITY CONTEXT Kaliyuva Mane organization is situated about 15km outside From Mysore city. The economicalenvironment is quite typical of most of rural India.In the village of Kaliyuva Mane the mainoccupation is within the agriculture sector• VOLUNTEER’S REQUIREMENTS • The volunteer will learn how to manage aschool home by helping in theadministration office. They will also takepart in lessons, so they will observingteacher methods. For volunteers comingfrom most of the European Countries thiswill be the first contact with rural life inwitch they will observe and participate inagriculture....Volunteers will also take part in eco-consciousprogram, learning how to save rain water,recycling, build a eco-toilet.• Participating in daily routine programmelike child activity centre and home.• They will take part in all centre's activityas lessons, cleaning activities, workshops.There's the possibility of making new kindof lessons managed by volunteers in topicthey are prepared in.
