Revannasiddaiah• THEME OR TYPE OF PROJECT Working with Children of Prisoners• AIMS OF THE PROJECT The FORHD Vision: To restore the dignity of self tochildren, human and man, who are victims of theircircumstances, by offering them avenues of help anddirections for their future.• PROJECT’S ACTIVITIES Education and shelter for the children of prisoners:With the bread-winner of the family going to prisoneducation of children becomes a casualty. When boththe parents go to jail or when the mother goes to jailthey are allowed to take children below 7 years to theprison along with them. Prisoners are counseled byFORHD regarding value of education or undesirablenature of keeping children in prison along with them.Such children are housed in the Makkala Mane run byFORHD at Mysore. At present there are 23 children.They are given food, shelter, clothing and educationfree of cost. It is proposed to increase the strength to50.Adoption of Schools in Slum:Children weaned from begging and labour were thebeneficiaries of free books, uniform and footwear. Toadd value to the free mid-day meal programme of theGovernment FORHD was instrumental in providingplates and assured drinking water.FORHD organized a camp in Beedi Workers Colonyfor distribution of books and stationery to the poorstudents of four Government schools along withidentifying their health needs to mobilize communitysupport in Kalyananagar, MysoreFeasts & Festivals: With the object of reintegratingprisoners into mainstream. FORHD had the lead rolein organizing feasts and festivals for the inmates ofprisons and delivering the message of love andconcern by the informed section of the society. WorldWomen’s Day, Gandhi Jayanthi, Christmas, New Yearand Raksha Bandhan were some of the occasions.Medical Service to the Poor & Prisoners :Tele-Medicine Service: A novel initiative by FORHDwas introduced for Bangalore Central Prison inmatesin association with Narayana Hrudayalaya, arenowned heart care facility, whereby the jail inmatesare given access to the super specialty hospital toobtain online advice.On 30.05.2003 FORHD in association with NarayanaHrudayalaya organized Heart Check up camp, itbenefited well over 200 patients who could not haveafforded to get such specialize test done on their own.
