More over improving <strong>and</strong> encouraging increased use of transitional <strong>and</strong>introducing modern bee-hives with full packages (sufficient training of the use<strong>and</strong> availing all the required accessories), facilitating participatory research <strong>and</strong>extension with relevant organizations operating in the area such as field days,enhancing farmers knowledge <strong>and</strong> skills about beekeeping management(including colony multiplication techniques) <strong>and</strong> pre- <strong>and</strong> post harvest h<strong>and</strong>ling ofhive products, encouraging more farmers to participate in beekeeping <strong>and</strong>enhancing the capacity of the exiting beekeepers to increase sustainable <strong>and</strong>adequate supply of quality honey are important for rapid promotion of apicultureto the district.• Emphasis should be given to the WARDO on bee product diversification. Waxproduced in the area is either discarded as well or put in to domestic use.Therefore, processing <strong>and</strong> marketing mechanism should be design to ensure theright benefit from the activity. Creating awareness on the value of beeswax <strong>and</strong>other hive products (such as propolis, royal jelly, pollen etc.), conducting businessmanagement training, developing organized marketing channel starting from thelocal market to the central market to improve the quality, quantity <strong>and</strong> marketingof honey products are important.Besides, establishing honey <strong>and</strong> beeswax collection centers or cooperatives <strong>and</strong>equipping them with the necessary facilities should be done. In addition,beekeepers should be able to identify pertinent market information <strong>and</strong>collaborate with other interested organizations to gather <strong>and</strong> disseminate theinformation <strong>and</strong> establishing <strong>and</strong> strengthening beekeepers cooperative tofacilitate collection, primary processing <strong>and</strong> marketing of honey products.• Most beekeepers <strong>and</strong> local traders, including Kokeb cooperatives in Bure district,lack adequate financial resources to invest on improved honey productiontechnologies, storage, processing facilities <strong>and</strong> packaging. Thus, credit facilityshould be available to individuals who are willing to be involved in the82
